DARTER

DARTER is Chloe CooperLouisa Martin and Phoebe Davies. DARTER make art in response to particular social contexts. With a predominantly ‘live’ or performative approach, DARTER’s work aims to playfully interrupt established social spaces and codes that shape or frame how we perceive an event, interaction or architectural space. Working with and responding to contexts such as a school or a specific audience, DARTER appropriate and subvert behavioural norms, documentary media and the tools of academia in order to communicate their ideas.

DARTER were Whitechapel Gallery Artists in Residence at the Bridge Academy School in Hackney for the academic year 2010-2011.

About:

Phoebe Davies is an artist living and working in London.

Her practice is defined by its location and context. She works in response to and in collaboration with individuals and communities, investigating and exploring how people perceive their social framework. Phoebe generates work through instruction, discussion and live interaction, which may be initiated by an individual or group but completed or extended by others.

Her work is often ephemeral and chanced upon existing primarily in pedestrian spaces in addition to galleries and institutions; including; Whitechapel Gallery (London), Arnolfini (Bristol), Tramway (Glasgow), South London Gallery (London) and Camden Arts Centre (London).

As part of the artist collective DARTER, Phoebe was Artist in Residence at Whitechapel Art Gallery in 2011 - 2012.
