DARTER is Chloe Cooper, Louisa Martin and Phoebe Davies. DARTER make art in response to particular social contexts. With a predominantly ‘live’ or performative approach, DARTER’s work aims to playfully interrupt established social spaces and codes that shape or frame how we perceive an event, interaction or architectural space. Working with and responding to contexts such as a school or a specific audience, DARTER appropriate and subvert behavioural norms, documentary media and the tools of academia in order to communicate their ideas.
DARTER were Whitechapel Gallery Artists in Residence at the Bridge Academy School in Hackney for the academic year 2010-2011.

DARTER. PLUNGE LONDON 2012
An Artsadmin and LIFT co-commission.
In response to Michael Pinsky’s light installation, Plunge the artists collective DARTER (Chloe Cooper, Phoebe Davies and Louisa Martin) worked with Londoners to uncover opinions on climate change and social and political issues, investigating how art can be used as a tool to voice your opinions and get yourself heard.

INSIGHTS
Camden Arts Centre. 2011
Insights focuses on supporting young people in their artistic career choices.
Working with a group of young people from all backgrounds Phoebe Davies and Jessie Brennan lead a series of interactive performative workshops and practical activities that developed an individual portfolio of work for each young person. Participating young people were also encouraged to make work collectively and experiment and take risks in varied media. These series of workshops led to the Live Art Event Post It at Camden Arts Centre devised by the young people.

WHAT IS LIVE ART?
During early 2010 Phoebe Davies will be facilitating a series of Live Art workshops in Leyton 6th Form College. Phoebe will be working in collaboration with AS and A2 students from fine art, photography and performing arts, introducing live art as medium to make artwork whilst also exploring the issues of making work outside of traditional art spaces.
What Is Live Art? is an Artsadmin “Pass It On” project, supporting and developing emerging artists working in participatory practice or creating socially engaged work. Pass is on is funded by Creative and Cultural Skills Award from LDA and Arts Council England

MENTORING:
Junto:Mentor 2009 -2010
In 2009, Chloe Cooper, Phoebe Davies and Louisa Martin alongside artists Emma Leach, Jieun Lee and Daniel Oliver formed Junto:Mentor, a mentoring scheme for emerging artists delivered collaboratively over a four-week period. The aim of Junto:Mentor is to tackle the challenging two-year period following graduation that often discourages graduates from pursuing art seriously. Junto:Mentor offers an environment to investigate and challenge their art practices, forming a dialogue between their work and the professional art world, whilst also increasing awareness of audiences for their work and widening their network of support. By sharing models for becoming more resourceful, discussing concerns with established artists and sharing advice that we ourselves found integral to our development, we offer a viewpoint that differs from those of more established artists or university tutors and lecturers.

Junto:Crits and Salons 2008-Ongoing
Junto is a group of artists, curators and producers who formed in 2008 in order to provide a space for critical discussion, feedback and support for emerging practitioners working mainly within live art, visual art and sound art. Current members include Natasha Vicars, Ania Bas, Emma Leach, Daniel Oliver, Maria Agiomyrgiannaki and the aforementioned Junto:Projects. Junto was initiated in 2008 by Louisa Martin who continued to facilitate and chair the meetings until Dec 2009. Since then Junto operates with a rotating leadership and meets twice monthly for critical feedback sessions and salons. Junto has been supported by various art organisations including Artsadmin, Gasworks and Whitechapel Gallery (The Street Project).
Phoebe Davies’ work is defined by its situation and contexts, exploring the social codes and behavioural responses that shape an event, public space or constructed scenario. She generates work through instruction, live interaction and text, which may be initiated by an individual or group but completed or extended by others. Her work is often ephemeral and chanced upon existing primarily in pedestrian spaces in addition to galleries and institutions.
Phoebe Davies is one third of DARTER, an artist group who make art in response to particular social contexts. With a predominantly live or performative approach, DARTER's work aims to playfully interrupt established social codes and conventions that shape or frame how we perceive an event, interaction or architectural space.
